WHY BOYCOTT THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO##
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the billboard child of an oppressive event to non-human animals, which must stop. People say it is cultural and not oppressive. HART does not disagree that it is cultural, and that is why we are not against the music, but are rather against any act that is oppressive onto another living creature. HART asks:
1.) That the HLSR add more licensed veterinarians in the arena at all times.
2.) To have on site a veterinarian that is approved by HART.
3.) To allow HART board to have a guided tour of the animal courters during, before and after the events that HLSR host.
4.) That there are more non oppressive events, thus lending to less oppressive events.
5.) An end to expansion of the rodeo and BBQ of the HLSR.
7.) Moratorium on construction of an facility aiding in the establishment of a rodeo or BBQ.
8.) A clear separation of the public sector and the HLSR and the elimination of the city of Houston in any way promoting or endorsing the HLSR.
The HLSR organization puts on the largest BBQ and Rodeo, hosting more than 1 million attendance in 2002. The HLSR begins in February of every year with a parade which transforms an internationally accredited city into a gun-slinging cow town. With floats and hundreds of horses, fom public schools to private businesses, our city is consumed with supporting a culture that tortures animals for a buck. HART is not at all against the aid that the HLSW gives to students, and the local community, but is strongly in favor of raising that money in an ethical manner, where no animal is hurt. |
